This is a little boy's off-white linen Sailor jacket /shirt that appears to be hand-made/homemade, with the finishes done nicely and professionally. It appears to be made of a medium fabric weight of linin. There is a double-breasted style front collar that has scalloped embroidery all the way down the jacket and carried over to the back flap collar. There are two buttons closing the front section. There is also an added dickey/insert with scalloped edges on the upper section that attaches/detaches to the main body with two buttons. There is some nautical embroidered details that I will describe:
~~~On the dickey there is a design of two embroidered anchors criss crossing with two naval/Navy stripes underneath,
~~~On the left hand sleeve is an embroidered eagle with wings spread out. Underneath are three naval stripes,
~~~On the back collar are two five pointed stars on each side,
~~~Embroidery/embroidered scallops/scalloped/scalloping on lower sleeves, back and front collars, top of dickey, as well as edges on front of collar all to way
down to the end of the front of the jacket (as previously mentioned).
There is a tiny hole (about half an eraser size or less) on the right front lower sleeve above the scalloped area. On the reverse side of the sleeve there is a snagged area of about
an inch. It looks like the fabric got caught on something, but it hasn't totally been ripped (photo 9). There are some little loose threads/threading, mostly underneath the arms
and armpit (and possibly a small repair under the armpit (photo 8). There is also a small brown spot in the middle back area, two on the lower left cuff and two faint ones on the upper right back collar and middle back right area (photos 2,4, 7). I have not tried to remove any
of these. There are several teeny, tiny miniscule "specks" (at least 10) that I also have not tried to remove. Overall, considering the age of this vintage c
ollectible, I think the outfit is in very good condition.
This piece did not come with pants or knickers. There are two belt loops, but there is no belt available.
Any faded/fading/discolorations/discolored looks are due to the lighting or my camera flash.
Since I do not know the exact age of the young man's/child's garment, I am putting in between the late 1800's up to the 1920's era (Victorian through Edwardian) or a little later.
I'm also not sure what size this vintage piece is, but it looks like it could possibly fit a 6 or 7 year old/medium?. Please check measurements or email me with any questions that you may have. Comes from a smoke-free home.
International and combined shipping available.
